Chandelier Stakes 2013 Results: Secret Compass nips She's a Tiger

A long, grueling stretch duel between She's a Tiger and Secret Compass ends with Secret Compas winning the Grade 1 Chandelier Stakes at Santa Anita Park. Closer Fascinating rallied in deep stretch to finish third while Harlingon's Rose round out the superfecta.

As is typical in races for juvenile fillies, the early pace was quite fast with Awesome Baby grabbing the early lead and then engaging in a duel with She's a Tiger down the backstretch at Santa Anita. She's a Tiger put away Awesome Baby prior to entering the far turn and stretched her lead to several lengths before Secret Compass began to make her best run. From the top of the stretch to the wire the race began to slow down significantly as the two fillies, both running around two-turns for the first time, slogged through a fourth quarter split of 27.47.

It remains to be seen how much this race took out of both fillies; while it was good for each to run a tough race prior to the Breeders' Cup, these two really slugged it out for the length of the stretch at Santa Anita.

Secret Compass is a two-year-old filly by Discreet Cat out of a Maria's Mon mare (Maria's Pride), trained by Bob Baffert and ridden by Rosie Napravnik.

The Chandelier Stakes is a "Win and You're In" race for the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies.
