2014 Dubai World Cup Results: African Story wins for Goldolphin

African Story springs the upset for the home team as he rolls to victory in the Dubai World Cup.

Goldolphin's African Story (GB), sent to the post at odds of 17/1 in the international markets, rolled past pace setter Mukhadram (GB) in mid-stretch on his way to winning the $10 million Dubai World Cup at Meydan Racecourse. Mukhadram held on for second, Cat O'Mountain rounded out the trifecta.

Mukhadram went to the lead unchallenged out of the gate, with a trio of horse in close stalking position down the backside of the main track. By the time the field hit the far turn, Mukhadram still had plenty of run left in him while many of his rivals struggled to make their move. African Story gained momentum at the top of the homestretch and began to wear down the leader with each and every stride in the final furlongs.

African Story is a seven-year-old gelding by Pivotal (GB) out of a Gone West mare (Blixen), trained by Saeed bin Suroor and ridden by Silvestre De Sousa.
