Gulfstream Pick 6: $3.6 Million Payout

New, 8 comments

The run of carryovers is done as a single ticket takes down $3.6 million in the Gulfstream Park Rainbow 6.

After weeks and weeks of carryovers, it finally happened: the Rainbow 6 at Gulfstream Park was taken down with a single winning ticket. The extraordinary run over carryovers, reaching approximately $3.6 million in today's pool, came to an end due to a sequence that began with a $100 winner and was followed by double digit horses all the way to the tenth and final race. The Rainbow 6, a $0.10 base wager that requires a single winning ticket in order to trigger a payout of the entire pool, was last hit on Dec. 28. when it paid almost $41,000.

According to an article at the Daily Racing Form, the winning ticket was sold at the Meadowlands and cost $3,118.50. Friday's pool had 4,387,330 combinations.

Heading into the last leg of the Rainbow 6, five horses were alive to pay one lucky bettor the entire $3.6 million pot (before taxes, of course). Below are the Will Pays going into the final leg of today's Rainbow 6:

As the field loaded into the gate in the 1 1/16 mile $35,000 Maiden Claiming race on the lawn (it's always a Maiden Claimer, isn't it?), the 4-Currency Gain got loose on the turf course and was scratched from the field causing a long delay. Think that added to the pressure if you were holding one of the possible winning tickets?

Once the gate opened, 7-Feline Forum went by the favorite, 11-Green Waters, in deep stretch to take it all down. The 3-Bahia De Oro and the 6-My Pal Ariana made late moves to get into contention (with the 3 also triggering the jackpot payout), but when they hit the wire, Feline Forum completed a six race sequence of double digit payouts.

Below are the results from the full Rainbow 6 sequence. Click on the horse name to go to the PDF chart via DRF.com:
