Reigning Hong Kong Horse of the Year, Ambitious Dragon (NZ), went by favorite Glorious Days (AUS) in the stretch to win the Group 1 Hong Kong Mile at Sha Tin. Ambitious Dragon sat well back of the early leaders but came with a strong, late run down the middle of the course to get up by three-quarters of a length at the wire.
Glorious Days held on to finish second, Packing OK (AUS) finished third, and Gordon Lord Byron (IRE) rounded out the top four.
There was an inquiry and objection following the race due to some bumping from Gordon Lord Byron. No changes were made to the final order.
Don Bosco (FR) set the pace through moderate fractions of 24.88 and 47.79. The pace picked up significantly from the From the half mile mark to the finish with the final two quarters going in 23.30 and 23.03.
Glorious Days, winner of the G2-Jockey Club Mile at Sha Tin in his last race, went to post as the betting favorite at odds of approximately 2.4. Ambitious Dragon, was the second choice on the board at odds of 4.1.
Ambitious Dragon is a six-year-old son of Pins (AUS) out of an Oregon mare, Golden Gamble (NZ), trained by Tony Millard and ridden by Zac Purton.
