2014 Kentucky Derby Video Replay

Uh, California Chrome is good.

How good is California Chrome? Well, at least good enough to dominate the 140th running of the Kentucky Derby. Good enough to sit close to the lead but still have enough stamina to kick on from home and open up on his rivals.

How far does California Chrome want to run? Beats me. With the obscure Cal-bred pedigree, it's a guessing game as to whether this colt can come back and win the Preakness and then the mile and a half Belmont.

What do I know about California Chrome? On this day, the first Saturday in May, he was the best three-year-old horse in America. And that's not a bad thing.

Congrats to Art Sherman on his first Derby win. Congrats to the owners who bred this colt out of a $8,000 mare. Yeah, you read that right: $8,000. The stud fee was $2,500.

Money can't buy a Derby winner. It helps. It's no guarantee.
