2014 Wood Memorial Results: Wicked Strong denies Social Inclusion

Wicked Strong rolls to Louisville after winning the Wood Memorial at Aqueduct.

Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Wicked Strong made a big, "strong" move down the middle of the Aqueduct main track to blow by the leaders and win the Grade 1 Wood Memorial. Samraat, undefeated in five lifetime starts, finished second for the first defeat of his career. Social Inclusion, the betting favorite from the crowd, led at the top of the stretch but faded to third at the wire.

Social Inclusion didn't have the best of starts from the gate and had to be hustled to the front where he locked up in a pace duel with Schivarelli for the first three-quarters of the race. Social Inclusion looked like he was in prime position to take command at the top of the stretch but the hard-charging Wicked Strong had enough left in the tank to overtake the leaders to win the Wood.

Wicked Strong is a three year old colt by Hard Spun out of a Charismatic mare (Moyne Abbey), trained by James Jerkins, ridden by Rajiv Maragh, and owned Centennial Farms. With his win in the Wood Memorial, Wicked Strong secures a spot in the starting gate for the 2014 Kentucky Derby.
