A stirring stretch run between Authenticity and 2012 Kentucky Oaks winner On Fire Baby ends up going to Authenticity in a head-bob at the wire to win the Grade 2 LaTroienne Stakes at Churchill Downs on Kentucky Oaks day. Authenticity and Believe You Can broke well from the gate and engaged each other on the lead down the backstretch at Churchill, with neither giving any ground. At the top of the stretch it looked like On Fire Baby would put away the pesky Authenticity, but that wouldn't be the case.
On Fire Baby bumped Believe You Can hard at the start of the race; Believe You Can finished a disappointing and excuse-filled third. Class Included rounded out the superfecta.
Authenticity is a six-year-old mare by Quiet American out of a Deputy Minister mare (Court of Appeal), trained by Todd Pletcher and ridden by John Velazquez.
