Groupie Doll broke slowly from the starting gate, spotted the leaders roughly ten lengths, and then roll past her over-matched foes en route to a six or seven length win in the Grade 3 Hurricane Bertie at Gulfstream Park. Five Star Momma was a distant second, while Wildcat Lily and Jamaican Smoke rounded out the well-beaten top four.
While Groupie Doll's start was less than ideal, the fractions carved out by the early leaders was the absolutely perfect set-up for the late-running champion. Opening splits of 22.27 and 22.89 provided plenty for Groupie Doll to run at; by the time the leaders were rounding the far turn, Groupie Doll had made up all the ground she spotted her rivals and was in perfect position to shut the door on any chance of an upset. Swinging four or five wide at the top of the lane (cause what's a little ground loss when you're clearly the best of the field), Groupie Doll sprinted away from her rivals in the blink of an eye and coasted home in the final start of her fantastic career.
