2014 Gulfstream Park Handicap Results: Lochte shocks at 39/1

New, 2 comments

In a field of tough turf horses, the longest shot on the board, springs the upset in the Gulfsteam Park Turf Handicap.

Alan Crowhurst

In a field where Summer Front, Amira's Prince (IRE) and Imagining took the majority of the wagering action at the windows, Lochte at odds of 39/1 ran away from the field in deep stretch to win the Gulfstream Park Turf Handicap. Sitting in behind the main leaders for the majority of the race, Lochte made his move along the rail as the field made their way into the main stretch and then powered to the front with little resistance from his rivals. At the wire, you'd think he should have been odds of 2/1 not 35/1.

Lochte is a four-year-old gelding by Medaglia d'Oro out of a Lemon Drop Kid mare (Lemon Kiss), trained by Marcus Vitali and ridden by Orlando Bocachica. This was Lochte's first race against graded stakes company and, of course, his first win.
